VALUE AT $2,500 OR LESS AND/OR NOT REQUIRING AN EXPORT LICENSE (AES Exemption)
Most shipments, with the exception of Global Express Guaranteed® (GXG) shipments, require an AES Exemption code. For GXG shipments, you certify that no electronic export information filing is required, so the code is prefilled on the GXG International Air Waybill, PS Form 11FGG1. For other than GXG shipments, fill out the appropriate option(s) through an electronically generated customs form, enter one of the following codes in block 10 (PS Form 2976-A), complete block 13 and/or block 14 (PS Form 2976-R), or check the appropriate box (PS Form 2976):
- NOEEI 30.36 – for authorized shipments, regardless of value, destined to Canada that does not require an export license.
- NOEEI 30.37(h) – for authorized shipments of gift parcels or humanitarian donations that does not require an export license.
- These countries are Crimea, Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria.
- NOEEI 30.37(a) – for goods valued at $2,500 or less each and does not require an export license.
- This AES Exemption may not be used for items sent to Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, or Syria.
- NOEEI 30.37(y) – for shipments containing only published books, software, or similar media, made available for general distribution to foreign libraries or similar institutions, and not requiring an export license.
- These countries are Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, and Syria.
VALUE OVER $2,500 AND/OR REQUIRING AN EXPORT LICENSE (AES)
Follow these steps to file required export information and obtain an Internal Transaction Number (ITN) to enter on either electronically generated or handwritten customs forms (mailers must use PS Form 2976-A or PS Form 2976-R and an appropriate shipping option when an ITN is required):
- For the “Port of Export” code for shipping through the Postal Service™, enter 8000.
- For the “Mode of Transport” enter Mail.
- Leave the carrier as “SCAC/IATA”, and leave the conveyance name fields blank.
After successfully filing the electronic export information, customers will receive an alphanumeric Internal Transaction Number (ITN). The ITN consists of the letters AES followed by the ITN. For example: AES X20080930987654
